FAQ

What is Sleep Therapy?

Sleep therapy is a form of treatment designed to teach people effective tools to improve their sleep. Based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), considered the gold standard approach for insomnia, sessions help you identify unhelpful patterns and establish new habits proven to facilitate healthy sleep. For people, even those suffering from chronic sleep difficulties, sleep therapy often provides noticeable improvements in as little as 4 weeks.

Is telemedicine right for me?

Having spent over a decade providing services in-person and virtually, I moved to a telemedicine practice for several reasons. First, behavioral sleep medicine is effective via telemedicine. Research shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person services for brief, practical, and powerful treatments like behavioral sleep medicine. Second, it increases access to specialized sleep treatments. As a small but growing field, it can be challenging to find an adequately trained sleep professional near you. Lastly, it is convenient. Even if you live near a sleep therapist, the burden of traveling to and from the office and taking time off of work can add up.

What are your fees?

My fees are commensurate with other doctoral-level sleep specialists and are collected at the beginning of each session via credit card. Please reach out to discuss specific fees.

There is no fee for rescheduling/canceling a session by email or phone at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, a $150 late cancellation fee will be applied.

Do you take insurance?

While I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance plans, to facilitate reimbursement, I provide a monthly superbill (summary of treatment) that you can submit with your claim to your insurance company. Insurance companies will vary in terms of how much of the cost they will cover with PPO plans generally covering the most per session. Some helpful questions to ask your insurance provider prior to treatment include:

  • Do I have mental health coverage?

  • How many sessions per year does it cover?

  • What is the reimbursement rate for an out-of-network provider?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
